It’s still early in the 2026 recruiting cycle, but NC State football could definitely use a momentum shift. The Wolfpack haven’t secured a commitment in nearly four months, and their modest class of four early pledges — all composite three-stars — currently ranks No. 66 nationally and No. 15 out of 17 in the ACC, according to 247Sports.

Unfortunately for head coach Dave Doeren, now in his 13th year at the helm, that much-needed boost didn’t come this weekend. One of NC State’s top targets, Carter Luckie, announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.
As first reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Norcross (Ga.) defensive lineman Carter Luckie committed to his home-state program, choosing Georgia over fellow finalists NC State, Florida State, and Ohio State.
“The red and black runs deep,” Luckie told Fawcett.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 275 pounds, the four-star prospect is ranked No. 318 nationally, No. 39 among defensive linemen, and No. 40 in Georgia in the 247Sports 2026 Composite. He received close to 40 scholarship offers throughout his recruitment.
