The Oklahoma Sooners successfully locked in top 2026 quarterback prospect Bowe Bentley, but they continue to stumble in their pursuit of wide receiver talent to support him.
On Friday, consensus four-star wide receiver Jordan Clay announced his commitment to Baylor, choosing the Bears over Colorado and Oklahoma. Clay, one of the top receivers in the 2026 class, also held offers from powerhouse programs including Texas, Arkansas, Arizona State, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Texas A\&M, Texas Tech, and others.
Jordan Clay Commits to Baylor Over Sooners, Adding to OU’s 2026 WR Woes
The Oklahoma Sooners’ struggles on the 2026 wide receiver recruiting trail continued Friday as four-star prospect Jordan Clay committed to Baylor, passing on offers from Oklahoma and Colorado. According to the 247Sports Composite, Clay — a 6-foot-3 standout from Madison High School in San Antonio — is ranked as the No. 15 wide receiver nationally and the No. 16 overall player in Texas.
Clay’s final official visit of the summer was to Norman for OU’s ChampU BBQ on June 20, but despite the Sooners’ push, wide receivers coach Emmett Jones and his staff were unable to close the deal.
Clay’s commitment is just the latest in a growing list of setbacks for Oklahoma’s 2026 receiver class. Two weeks ago, the Sooners missed out on a pair of four-star wideouts in a single day — both of whom had OU among their finalists.
The biggest sting came from losing in-state talent Mason James. The four-star receiver from Norman North High School chose Washington over his hometown Sooners, dealing OU a particularly tough blow on the recruiting trail.
Of the 32 reported scholarship offers OU has sent out to 2026 receivers, 25 of those players have already committed elsewhere. The Sooners’ lone WR commit in the class is four-star Daniel Odom — and even that may be on shaky ground. Odom, who played youth football with former OU quarterback commit Jaden O’Neal, could be reconsidering after O’Neal flipped his pledge to Florida State. Odom has since taken official visits to FSU, Washington, and Oklahoma, adding to speculation that his commitment may not be firm.
Even if Odom sticks with the Sooners, the WR class remains thin. Aside from four-star Jayden Warren, the rest of OU’s uncommitted targets are three-star prospects or lower — and four of the seven are currently unrated by 247Sports.
With Clay off the board and options narrowing, Oklahoma may be forced to chase a late flip or turn to the Transfer Portal to surround 2026 quarterback Bowe Bentley with enough firepower.
