The NBA G League Elite Camp is in full swing, with more than 40 players vying for a coveted spot in the upcoming NBA Draft Combine in Chicago.
Former UNC standout RJ Davis made a strong impression in his first of two games at the camp.
Starting for Team One, Davis tallied 14 points in just under 22 minutes, playing a key role in their 89-85 win. He shot 5-of-9 from the field and was efficient from the free throw line, hitting 4-of-5 attempts. Davis also chipped in with two assists and two rebounds to round out a well-balanced performance.
Davis’ squad features some recognizable names, including Jaland Lowe (Pittsburgh) and Norchad Omier, who played at Miami before transferring to Baylor for his final college season. Both came off the bench for Team One.
Interestingly, it was the bench that outshined the starters in terms of plus/minus—a stat that tracks a team’s point differential while a player is on the court. The starting unit for Team One, including Davis, struggled in that area, posting a combined -40. Davis tied for a team-low -11, though he wasn’t the only starter to post a negative impact in that metric.
Davis and Team One have one more opportunity to impress, as they’ll face off against Team Four on Sunday night. Adding to the intrigue, Davis is set to go head-to-head with a familiar face—former UNC teammate Caleb Love, who is playing for Team Four.
