RJ Davis powered Team One to a 92-73 victory over Caleb Love and Team Four during Tuesday’s G League Elite Camp matchup. Coming off the bench, Davis tallied 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting (2-of-5 from three), while also contributing five assists, three rebounds, and a steal in just 20 minutes of action.
Love matched Davis with 13 points of his own on 4-of-10 shooting (1-of-5 from deep), adding three assists and a game-high four steals.
“I just wanted to come in, make an impact, and help get the win,” Davis said postgame. “I took open shots when they were there and tried to bring energy off the bench. I think I did a solid job maximizing my minutes. I just focus on playing my game and staying present. I’m proud of how I played.”
Tuesday’s G League Elite Camp matchup marked a reunion between former UNC teammates RJ Davis and Caleb Love—their first on-court meeting since Love transferred to Arizona following the 2022–23 season. In a highly anticipated showdown, Davis led Team One to a 92–73 win over Love’s Team Four, scoring 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting (2-of-5 from three), with five assists, three rebounds, and a steal in just 20 minutes off the bench. Love matched his former Tar Heel classmate with 13 points (4-of-10 FG, 1-of-5 3FG), adding three assists and a game-high four steals.
The G League Elite Camp, held annually in Chicago, is a key pre-draft showcase featuring NBA hopefuls in front of league scouts, coaches, and executives. Despite strong performances, neither Davis nor Love received an invite to the NBA Draft Combine.
For Davis, the camp appearance caps a storied five-year run at North Carolina. The White Plains, N.Y. native finishes his career as UNC’s all-time leader in made three-pointers (358) and free-throw percentage (86.4%). He ranks second in school history in scoring and is one of only three players in ACC history—alongside Tyler Hansbrough and JJ Redick—to score more than 2,500 points. Davis is the only Tar Heel ever to record 2,500 points, 600 rebounds, 500 assists, 300 threes, and 150 steals.
Love, who played three seasons at UNC before transferring, left Chapel Hill ranked third in three-point attempts (630), eighth in made threes (200), and 35th in career scoring. He earned Pac-12 Player of the Year honors in his lone season at Arizona, averaging 17.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals.
Following the game, Davis reflected on the bond the two still share.
“I congratulated him and he congratulated me,” Davis said of their shared conference player of the year honors in 2023–24. “There’s always love between me and him. For both of us to win conference player of the year, I think it’s all God’s work. Always been a fan of his game. That’s my brother.”
