An attorney appeared in court Tuesday on behalf of Ohio State University women’s basketball coach Kevin McGuff, who is facing allegations of driving under the influence.
McGuff was arrested by Dublin Police on the evening of May 6 after allegedly driving through a residential yard near his home. According to the police report, McGuff denied consuming alcohol but failed several field sobriety tests, including a request to recite the alphabet from “D” to “R” without singing. He was only able to say the letter “D.”
The report also noted that McGuff appeared slow to respond to questions and smelled of alcohol. He declined to take a breath test, prompting officers to confiscate his driver’s license. A judge in Dublin Mayor’s Court temporarily reinstated his driving privileges during Tuesday’s hearing.
McGuff’s attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
McGuff has served as the head coach of the Ohio State women’s basketball program since 2013. In the 2024–25 season, the Buckeyes finished third in the Big Ten with a 26–7 overall record. McGuff was also named to the Naismith Coach of the Year Watch List for the third consecutive year.
The Ohio State University Athletic Department has not yet responded to a request for comment from WOSU.
