One half of Ohio State basketball’s two-player 2025 recruiting class will be putting his college debut on hold. Four-star guard Dorian Jones won’t be enrolling at Ohio State for the 2025-26 season. Instead, he announced in a now-deleted Instagram post that he plans to spend the year developing both on and off the court before making the leap to the college level. A source close to the Buckeyes program told Eleven Warriors that Jones is expected to enroll at either a prep school or junior college for the upcoming year.
“As I evaluate my progress, I see this next year as a chance for me to grow more before stepping into college basketball,” Jones wrote in his post. “I won’t be joining Ohio State this season, but I’m excited to keep building our relationship.”
Currently ranked as the No. 114 overall recruit and the No. 19 shooting guard in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports composite, Jones remains committed to Ohio State for the future, the source added.
With Ohio State’s backcourt already crowded—featuring senior Bruce Thornton, sophomore John Mobley Jr., Indiana transfer Gabe Cupps, and redshirt sophomore Taison Chatman—Jones would have been fifth in line for minutes this year.
Ohio State has 15 roster spots, though they only plan to use 13 scholarships. With Jones’ decision, they’re set to have 11 scholarship players for 2025-26, with more roster shuffling still to come to round out the team.
