Alabama’s offense is still developing during the offseason, but practicing against a strong defense is proving beneficial for new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.
Grubb highlighted that facing defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s 4-2-5 Swarm defense in practice is helping the offense improve. “I’m grateful for it,” Grubb said on The Game with Ryan Fowler. “It’s a cliché, but going up against players like Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown is exactly what we need. Our talented receiving corps faces the kind of competition they’ll see weekly in the SEC and in pursuit of a national championship. It keeps us sharp—some days we outplay the defense, and other days we’re humbled. That’s part of the growth process. Kane’s group is not only talented but well-coached and intelligent, which makes the competition enjoyable and valuable.”
Wommack introduced his defensive scheme last season, experiencing both successes and challenges, with the defense now ranking 10th in returning production.
