It didn’t take long—or much convincing—for former South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley to make a stunning move to rival territory and join Kim Mulkey’s LSU program.
In a recent appearance on the Get Gordon Podcast, Mulkey revealed that Fulwiley committed to LSU without ever visiting the campus.
“I think I spoke to her and her mother one time,” Mulkey said. “She hasn’t even come here on a visit. She’s played against us enough to know our style of play. These young people do their homework. They look at rosters, rotations, and where they can fit in. I think she already had her mind made up.”
Fulwiley entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on April 17 and announced her commitment to LSU just eight days later. She has yet to publicly explain her decision to leave South Carolina, where she played a pivotal role in the Gamecocks’ 2024 National Championship run.
Averaging 11.8 points per game and earning SEC Sixth Woman of the Year honors, Fulwiley was a spark plug off the bench. Still, she averaged just 18.9 minutes per game and started only three of 76 games during her two years under Dawn Staley.
Her talent has been on full display—particularly against LSU. In three career games against the Tigers, Fulwiley averaged 13.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and two steals, highlighted by a 24-point performance in the 2024 SEC Tournament.
Now, she brings that firepower to Baton Rouge, joining an LSU program reloading with elite talent and championship ambitions.
“She’s an exciting player,” Mulkey said. “She plays with a lot of flair. We’re going to be excited when I can get her on that floor.”
