The South Carolina Gamecocks are keeping a roster spot open for Collin Murray-Boyles as he explores his NBA draft options.
After wrapping up their season a couple of months ago, the South Carolina men’s basketball team has shifted its attention to building for next year. While they’ve been active in the transfer portal, the Gamecocks are leaving space for one of their own—star forward Collin Murray-Boyles—who has declared for the NBA draft but remains eligible to return.
Murray-Boyles was the standout performer for South Carolina last season, averaging 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting an impressive 58.6% from the field. CBS Sports’ latest mock draft has him projected as the 12th overall pick, potentially heading to the Chicago Bulls.
Head coach Lamont Paris emphasized Murray-Boyles’ importance to the program, stating they’re reserving a spot on the roster should he choose to return. “He’s the sun—everything revolves around him,” Paris said.
Bringing Murray-Boyles back would be a major boost for the Gamecocks, who are coming off a disappointing season that saw them finish at the bottom of the conference after an NCAA tournament appearance the year before. With Paris working to steer the program back into contention, a return from their star forward could significantly change their trajectory.
Still, if Murray-Boyles hears his name called in the lottery, it’s likely he’ll follow through on his path to the NBA.
