State’s Running Back Room Loaded with Depth and New Talent
The running back unit at State is shaping up to be a potent force this season with a solid mix of experienced returners and promising new talent. The group returns four dynamic players: redshirt sophomore Hollywood Smothers, redshirt freshmen Jayden Scott, Jonathan Paylor, and Isiah Jones. Smothers emerged as a standout down the stretch last fall, racking up 414 rushing yards and five touchdowns over the final five games. He finished the season with 571 rushing yards on 89 carries (an impressive 7.4 yards per carry), along with 283 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions.
Joining the backfield this year is freshman Deandre Desinor, a newcomer expected to add further depth and explosiveness to an already talented group. With Smothers leading the charge and a wave of young talent pushing for snaps, the running back room looks poised to be a major strength for State this season.
