Wide receiver Aziah Johnson has left the football team. One of the top portal additions from last offseason is moving on after just three games. Johnson, a slot receiver who transferred from Michigan State, recorded 16 receptions for 276 yards and two touchdowns with the Spartans last season.
He arrived at UNC with high expectations but appeared in only one game as a Tar Heel, against Charlotte. In that contest, he played five snaps, was targeted twice, and caught one pass for six yards.
Once considered a potential preseason Offensive MVP (I may have severely misspelled “Demon June”), Johnson transferred to Carolina shortly after Bill Belichick was hired. However, it’s clear he wasn’t satisfied with how his role was shaping up in Chapel Hill.
Belichick seems like the type of coach who expects players to either fit the system or move on. Apparently, Johnson didn’t fit, making this a “best of luck in your future endeavors” situation.
