The upcoming NBA offseason is shaping up to be a dramatic one, with several major moves expected—possibly involving some of the league’s biggest superstars.
For months, Kevin Durant has been at the center of trade speculation. However, it’s Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks who has recently emerged as the offseason’s biggest storyline, with his name now surfacing in serious trade rumors.
The Bucks endured another disappointing playoff run, exiting in the first round. With the team’s future clouded by limited assets and Damian Lillard’s injury concerns, Giannis could be eyeing a way out of Milwaukee this summer.
Multiple teams have already been linked to the two-time MVP, including the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Golden State Warriors. However, one dark horse in the Giannis sweepstakes is the Detroit Pistons, as noted by Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale.
“Slotting him alongside Cade Cunningham creates the ideal one-two punch,” Favale wrote. “Between those two, the Pistons have their defensive anchor, first and second offensive scoring options, and No. 1 and No. 2 playmakers. Surround them with enough shooting and the right kind of center, and you’re looking at a prospective juggernaut—not just in the Eastern Conference, but overall.”
The Pistons had a breakout season, going from the NBA’s worst team to a playoff contender. Adding a superstar like Giannis next to Cunningham could vault them into the conversation as legitimate title contenders in 2025.
Detroit also boasts a wealth of young talent—including Ausar Thompson, Jalen Duren, and Jaden Ivey—along with valuable draft capital, all of which could make for an enticing trade package for the Bucks. Giannis would be an ideal fit for the Pistons, aligning perfectly with their defense-first mentality. If Detroit can surround him and Cade Cunningham with reliable shooters, there’s little doubt the Pistons could emerge as legitimate contenders as early as next season.
