The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Tennessee native is looking for a fresh start after two injury-riddled seasons at Texas Tech. Before that, he spent one year as a starter at Arizona State and was a steady contributor during three seasons at Auburn.
Last week, North Carolina’s coaching staff was among those who reached out to Cambridge.
However, the latest update on Cambridge from On3’s Joe Tipton, shared Tuesday, doesn’t offer much encouragement for Tar Heel fans hoping he’ll land in Chapel Hill.
Devan Cambridge, a 24-year-old veteran who was recently granted a rare seventh year of college eligibility via a medical hardship waiver, is on the move again. Following two injury-plagued seasons at Texas Tech, the 6-foot-6, 210-pound Tennessee native has entered the transfer portal, drawing interest from several high-major programs.
Cambridge told On3’s Joe Tipton that he has scheduled a visit to Pitt beginning Wednesday and will visit Ohio State on Monday. He also mentioned the possibility of visiting Mississippi State. Notably, he made no mention of visiting UNC, though he confirmed he’s heard from the Tar Heels, as well as Arizona, Seton Hall, Pepperdine, and his former team, Arizona State.
Over six college seasons spanning the SEC, Pac-12, and Big 12, Cambridge has appeared in 141 games, averaging 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest. He has posted career shooting splits of 44.2% from the field, 29.3% from three-point range, and 62.0% from the free-throw line.
At this point, UNC’s chances in the Cambridge sweepstakes appear slim, with his focus seemingly elsewhere.
Fifth-year UNC head coach Hubert Davis and his staff have been active in the transfer portal, securing five additions this cycle. According to 247Sports, their transfer class currently ranks No. 17 nationally.
