Shortly after the NCAA approved Devan Cambridge’s medical hardship waiver earlier this month—granting the former Texas Tech, Arizona State, and Auburn forward a rare seventh year of eligibility—the UNC basketball staff quickly reached out to express interest in the 6-foot-6, 210-pound veteran.

However, just about a week later, Cambridge announced a list of upcoming visits that notably excluded UNC, signaling a setback in the Tar Heels’ pursuit of the Tennessee native.
Then on Tuesday evening, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that the 24-year-old has committed to UCF, where he’ll play under head coach Johnny Dawkins, a former Duke standout.
Cambridge’s college journey includes three years at Auburn, a breakout season at Arizona State, and an injury-plagued stint at Texas Tech.
UNC basketball continues to pursue a few remaining transfer targets as it works to finalize its 2025-26 roster. So far, the Tar Heels have secured commitments from five incoming transfers and three recruits. These newcomers will join a core group that includes at least two returning players: rising senior guard Seth Trimble and sophomore big man James Brown.
