Virginia Tech starting linebacker Caleb Woodson has been charged with driving while intoxicated, according to arrest records from Montgomery County, Virginia.
Woodson was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 23, for a first-offense DWI, classified as a misdemeanor. This comes a month after he was cited for reckless driving, when police clocked him traveling 96 mph in a 70 mph zone. His DWI case is scheduled for Sept. 9, with the reckless driving charge set to be heard a week later on Sept. 16.
A junior for the Hokies, Woodson has appeared in 26 games over two seasons, recording 38 solo tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, and an interception. Just last week, he was named a team captain, but head coach Brent Pry confirmed that the honor has since been revoked. Pry noted, however, that Woodson could have an opportunity to earn the role back.
Regarding Woodson’s availability for Sunday’s matchup against No. 13 South Carolina, Pry said no decision has been made about whether the linebacker will play.
