While Wisconsin standout John Tonje geared up for the upcoming NBA Combine, another former Badger was making waves at the G League Elite Camp.
Chucky Hepburn, one of more than 40 prospects competing for a shot at the NBA Draft, impressed in his debut on Saturday. The former Badger floor general tallied seven points, two rebounds, and a game-high eight assists in just under 22 minutes on the court.
Hepburn Shines in First G League Elite Camp Game
Chucky Hepburn, a three-year starter at Wisconsin before finishing his college career at Louisville, made the most of his first appearance at the G League Elite Camp. Though he didn’t receive an NBA Combine invite, he was selected for the Elite Camp as he works to boost his draft stock — and so far, he’s off to a promising start. In Saturday’s game, Hepburn dished out a game-high eight assists to go along with seven points and two rebounds in just under 22 minutes. His +5 plus/minus was also tied for the best on his team in a narrow loss.
Losing Hepburn to the transfer portal was a tough blow for Wisconsin fans. A beloved figure in Madison, he was widely expected to finish his college career as a Badger. His departure forced freshman John Blackwell into an accelerated role at point guard, even though his natural position is more of a shooting guard. Meanwhile, Hepburn thrived with the Cardinals and is now turning heads on the professional stage.
Hepburn is set to play one more game tonight, and another strong showing could be enough to earn him a late invite to the NBA Combine — and keep his NBA dream alive.
