CLEVELAND, OH – Today, the Cleveland Guardians revealed a transaction concerning the Major League roster for 2025:
Agreed to a one-year Major League deal with free agent 1B Carlos Santana for the 2025 season.
Santana, 38, comes back for his third term in Cleveland, having previously played 10 seasons in total from 2010-17 and once more in 2019-20. During his time in Cleveland, he received a 2019 American League All-Star selection and the 2019 AL Silver Slugger Award, placing second in franchise history for walks (881), tied for sixth in home runs (216), and eighth in extra-base hits (503). Throughout his careers, he compiled a batting line of .251/.368/.450/.818, achieving 273 doubles, 14 triples, 216 home runs, and 710 RBIs in 1,334 games, while recording a bWAR of 29.8.
Throughout his distinguished 15-year Major League career, he has a slash line of .242/.354/.431/.785, accumulating 393 doubles, 324 home runs, and 1,082 RBIs over 2,080 games. His 1,278 walks top all current players as he now stands in the top-10 of active hitters in runs (6th, 1,058), hits (7th, 1,789), total bases (8th, 3,188) and doubles (5th, 393). The switch-hitter has shown outstanding consistency over his career, participating in at least 130 games and driving in 60 or more runs in all 13 of his complete seasons in the Majors (excluding his rookie year in 2010 and the shortened 2020 season) while finishing in the top 10 in the AL in walks 12 times during his career.
He played the 2024 season for the Minnesota Twins, topping the team in homers (23), RBI (71), and walks (65) while earning his first Rawlings Gold Glove Award at first base, making him the oldest position player in MLB history to receive this award for the first time and leading the AL with eight Defensive Runs Saved.
The 40-man roster currently consists of 40 players.
