MAJOR UPDATE: Yankees Expected to Execute Major Three-Player Trade for $200 Million Power Hitter

The New York Yankees saw Juan Soto join the New York Mets this offseason. They have included Cody Bellinger, Devin Williams, Max Fried, and Paul Goldschmidt in an effort to substitute for him.

Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com forecasted that they would execute a trade during the season to bring in another superstar. He forecasted that the Yankees would execute this trade with the Minnesota Twins to acquire Carlos Correa:

Yankees get: shortstop Carlos Correa.

Twins get: infielder George Lombard Jr. (No. 3 prospect), right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton (No. 6 prospect) and right-handed pitcher Will Warren (No. 5 prospect)

Trading three top 10 prospects is what would be necessary to obtain Correa. The Yankees have Anthony Volpe tentatively set at shortstop, but they wouldn’t allow that to prevent them from acquiring a player of Correa’s quality. They would probably shift Volpe to second base, which has become a necessity for the Yankees as well.

In 2023, Correa agreed to a $200 million contract with the Twins for six years. Since joining the league in 2015, just two shortstops have hit more home runs than Correa: Francisco Lindor and Corey Seager.

Correa is a three-time All-Star, Gold Glove winner, and Platinum Glove recipient. Bringing him to the Yankees would significantly enhance their infield. In the previous season, he participated in only 86 games but posted a slash line of .310/.388/.517 along with 14 home runs.

During the Winter Meetings, Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey and general manager Jeremy Zoll both mentioned that their focus is not on selling but on achieving victory. Nonetheless, they acknowledged that they will pay attention to requests for all of their athletes. “And what we convey to each team is: Hey, we embrace creativity,” Falvey informed journalists.

“We cannot dismiss any possibilities until we listen to it, regardless of the player’s identity, so we will remain considerate of their situation and what they are experiencing while brainstorming some innovative concepts.” It’s what brought us to a Pablo deal, or something similar, at various points. “Therefore, we need to remain receptive to those matters.”
