Indiana men’s basketball lost its top scorer, Malik Reneau, early in the first half of Thursday night’s 84-74 victory against Rutgers due to what seemed to be a knee injury.
Reneau fell to the floor after a clash at the rim, placing his hands on his knee as team staff rushed to his side. He managed to walk out on his own but headed directly to the Hoosiers’ locker room.
He appeared later with ice wrapped around his right knee. He didn’t need crutches and didn’t exhibit a significant limp when walking, but was excluded for the rest of the game.
After the game, Mike Woodson was inquired about the injury and provided the following information:
“At this moment, we simply need to assess him tomorrow,” Woodson mentioned. “He was unable to return to the game, and you understand he’s a crucial part of the puzzle.” Entering this game, he was our top scorer, so we’ll assess him tomorrow with our medical team to determine his status, and if he can’t participate, the next player will step in. “We must keep proceeding with whoever is in uniform.”
Reneau began as the starter at the five position against Rutgers, while Oumar Ballo was on the bench. If he misses time, Indiana would probably revert to starting Ballo alongside Luke Goode at the power forward position.
