The New York Yankees possess more starting pitchers than they can effectively manage. Gerrit Cole is the team’s standout pitcher, complemented by free-agent signing Max Fried at the rotation’s forefront. Following the trade of Nester Cortes to the Milwaukee Brewers, New York completes the rotation with Clark Schmidt, Luis Gil, Carlos Rodon, and Marcus Stroman.
Considering the Yankees possess several high-ranking pitching prospects who are prepared for the big leagues, it becomes evident that the Bronx Bombers must trade one of their major league starters.
Austin Owens from FanSided recently forecasted that the Yankees might send Stroman back to the Toronto Blue Jays, the team where he started his major league career.
“As Spring Training is fast approaching, the Blue Jays must make changes if they aim to compete in a challenging American League East division,” Owens stated. “The Orioles, Yankees, and Red Sox have all made significant moves this offseason while the Blue Jays have stayed inactive.” Obtaining Stroman would pose a significant risk for the Toronto Blue Jays, yet it isn’t entirely improbable at this stage given their potential desperation for enhancement.
The Blue Jays must take action, and the Yankees would benefit from relieving themselves of nearly $20 million from their finances.
Toronto could benefit from an additional starter, particularly one with the experience that Stroman possesses. Having spent the initial six years of his major league career in Toronto, Stroman knows the Blue Jays well, just as they know him.
Stroman was a healthy scratch from the Yankees’ World Series roster in 2024, so there’s truly no point in retaining him on their full roster. If the Bronx Bombers can remove his contract and bring in a prospect or two, they would find themselves in a far superior situation.
