After just one season with Alabama football, defensive back King Mack is returning to his roots at Penn State. Mack, who entered the transfer portal following the 2024 season, announced on Sunday that he will rejoin the Nittany Lions.
Mack began his college career at Penn State, where he played one season before transferring to Alabama. In his announcement on social media, he simply stated, “I’m back.”
During his sophomore year, Mack participated in 12 of Alabama’s 13 games, totaling 14 tackles. The 5-foot-10, 206-pound Miami native received praise from the Alabama coaching staff prior to the season for his speed and instincts on the field.
Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack highlighted Mack’s ability to elevate his game during scrimmages. Originally a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, Mack contributed primarily on special teams during his freshman year at Penn State, playing in all 13 games and earning accolades from teammates and coaches alike.
However, due to a crowded safety position at Penn State, he decided to transfer after entering the portal in May 2024.At Alabama, Mack played in all 13 games but did not start any, finishing with 14 tackles.
Following Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl, he entered the transfer portal again. Now back at Penn State, Mack will have two years of eligibility remaining and will compete for a starting role in a revamped safeties room. His return marks him as the sixth player to commit to Penn State through the transfer portal this offseason.
