Arizona State’s leading class of 2025 high school football recruit will need to wait a bit longer to play for the Sun Devils.
Cam Dyer, a 4-star quarterback recruit from La Cueva High School in New Mexico, suffered a right knee injury during La Cueva’s state semifinal win against Las Cruces in late November. In spite of the injury, Dyer completed the game — and then came back the following week to guide La Cueva against Cleveland in the NMAA 6A state championship match.
A dual-threat quarterback, Dyer was mostly restricted in mobility due to the knee injury and was confined to being a pocket passer in La Cueva’s 26-8 championship game defeat. Hobbling on one leg, he completed only 6 of 27 passes for 85 yards, throwing one touchdown and two picks. He ran 9 times for 36 yards.
On Thursday, Dyer shared a post-surgery image on social media showing his knee resting on two pillows, equipped with a large brace and connected to an ice machine. The details of his injury and an expected recovery timeframe have not been disclosed.
Dyer finished high school early at La Cueva and started at Arizona State for the spring term. He first pledged to Arizona State as a wide receiver, but Kenny Dillingham was so taken with his growth at quarterback that he stated Dyer would have an opportunity to compete at QB.
Standing tall at 6-foot-4 and weighing 200 pounds, Dyer was an impressive athlete who excelled in three sports at La Cueva, participating in basketball and track and field as well. He recorded 3,842 total yards and 51 touchdowns in his final football season.
