Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning sometimes finds the attention from his renowned family name overwhelming.
During a Thursday interview with ESPN’s Marty Smith, Manning was inquired about which element of his surname people might not grasp.
“Manning stated that it receives much unearned attention, but he hopes it will become more warranted in the coming months.” “I don’t believe I’ve accomplished enough to be taking many pictures at restaurants and giving autographs.” “Yet perhaps that will happen in due time.”
Manning’s surname carries significant expectations as well. His uncles, Peyton and Eli, are several-time Super Bowl champions and together accumulated 18 Pro Bowl selections during their careers. His grandfather, Archie, placed third in the Heisman voting in 1970 and was selected second overall by the New Orleans Saints in 1971.
Arch Manning has had limited playing time during his initial two seasons at Texas, yet he has demonstrated potential to continue his family’s legacy.
During the previous season, Arch Manning took over as the starter for two games after the Longhorns’ starting quarterback Quinn Ewers sustained an oblique injury while playing against UTSA. He finished with a record of 2-0, achieving 68.3% pass completion with 583 yards, four touchdowns, and two picks.
With Ewers declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Arch Manning will take over as the starting quarterback. The Longhorns are optimistic that he can assist them in overcoming the obstacle. They’ve been knocked out in consecutive College Football Playoff semifinal appearances.
As of Thursday, FanDuel Sportsbook ranks the Longhorns with the second-best odds for the national championship (+650), following the Ohio State Buckeyes (+500). Texas goes up against Ohio State away from home in its season debut on Aug. 30.
If Arch Manning meets the expectations, he should prepare for the spotlight. He will get even more of it.
