Oregon Ducks wide receiver Tez Johnson’s NFL Draft value is increasing following an impressive Senior Bowl showing. Johnson addressed concerns regarding his smaller stature by showcasing his agility and quickness to NFL scouts. Johnson was selected as one of the ‘most significant climbers’ on the Pro Football Focus big board.
Johnson currently holds the No. 88 position on PFF’s Big Board, indicating that he is expected to be a “priority” pick on day three of the NFL Draft.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Johnson stood out on Senior Day by consistently overpowering defensive backs with his exceptional route-running skills.
A strong performance at the NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium from February 27 to March 2 will enable him to enhance a successful draft process. Johnson has caught the attention of NFL general managers due to his performance observed in Mobile, AL.
“Oregon WR Tez Johnson was ‘extremely impressive’ in Mobile, an NFL executive informed me,” FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz shared on Twitter/X. “Emphasizing these characteristics: Seamless releases, sharp on cuts, ‘explosiveness you’d need to strategize against,’ Don’t overanalyze: ‘He’s a guy.'”
Schultz mentioned that the executive likened Johnson to Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell, who is set to begin his third NFL season in 2025.
PFF made the same comparison between Johnson and Dell. One of the most thrilling newcomers in 2023, Dell recorded 47 receptions for 709 yards and seven touchdowns over 11 games… A decent comparison for the aspiring NFL player Johnson!
Naturally, this will not surprise Oregon fans who have seen Johnson excel for two seasons as a Duck.
A recent profile of Johnson in the NFL Draft by Bleacher Report anticipates him as a strong backup with potential to be a starter.
Johnson told Oregon Ducks on SI reporter Bri Amaranthus that his aim in the NFL is to be the first Duck receiver selected in the first round in many years.
A beloved figure in Oregon, Johnson exited the field for the last time as a Duck after Oregon was defeated by the Ohio State Buckeyes, 41-21, in the College Football Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl.
The departure from Troy was slow as he left the Rose Bowl and acknowledged the Ducks supporters who traveled to Pasadena. Johnson donated a portion of his equipment to fans, as shown in the video below.
Johnson also waited for Ohio State quarterback Will Howard to complete his ESPN interview post-game, so he could congratulate him on the victory.
Johnson concluded the 2024 season with 898 receiving yards, 83 catches, and 10 touchdowns. Although he missed almost three entire games due to injury, Johnson was just three receptions away from surpassing the Oregon single-season receptions record of 86… That Johnson established in 2023.
Johnson has a strong connection to the Denver Broncos, mainly because of his relationship with Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. At 15 years old, Johnson was taken in by the family of former Oregon quarterback Nix. Reuniting under coach Sean Payton’s rapid offense in Denver presents an interesting opportunity.
“It would be fantastic.” I informed Bo that if Sean Payton selects me in the draft, we’ll create a film. We are absolutely going to create a film. You and I are the main characters. We are certainly going to create a film. “Being coached by Sean Payton will undoubtedly be amazing,” Johnson stated to Amaranthus prior to the 2024 season.
At this point, the film could become a reality.
