Devastating news hit the college football community on Wednesday as it was announced that former Ohio State offensive lineman Ben Christman, a four-star recruit from Akron, Ohio, sadly died at his apartment in Las Vegas. The Clark County Coroner’s Office has verified the information, although the cause of death has not been revealed.
Christman had recently moved to UNLV to pursue his football career. He played two seasons at Ohio State in 2021 and 2022 prior to moving to Kentucky in 2023. Following two seasons with the Wildcats, he made the decision to move to UNLV in December.
UNLV’s social media post stated, “UNLV grieves the loss of student-athlete Ben Christman.”
The university elaborated further by issuing a statement that said, “UNLV Athletics was informed earlier today about the death of a student-athlete who played on the football team at their off-campus residence.” This is an incredibly challenging day for our athletics department and the university community. In honor of the student’s family and while awaiting formal notification of the next of kin from the Clark County Coroner’s Office, the university currently has no additional information to provide.
Christman was a redshirt first-year player with the Buckeyes in his inaugural season at college. Originating from Ohio, he had always aspired to play for Ohio State, a dream he was lucky enough to realize.
