What Makes this 5-Star QB Visit Significant for Michigan Football.

Michigan football secured the top quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class when Bryce Underwood committed — can the Wolverines replicate that success in 2026? Although Newbury Park (CA) 2026 quarterback Brady Smigiel is not ranked as the top quarterback, he is among the finest. The Composite ranks Smigiel as the No. 5 quarterback in the cycle, and Michigan is near the top of his preferences.

The five-star quarterback from The Rivals revealed four trips he will embark on beginning in early March. Smigiel will first visit Washington (March 8), then travel to South Carolina (March 27), followed by a trip back West to watch UCLA (April 3), before concluding in Ann Arbor to see Michigan at its Spring Game on April 19.

In an interview with Inside Scoop, Smigiel disclosed that his favorite teams at the moment are Michigan, UCLA, Washington, Auburn, and South Carolina. He intends to visit all five schools, and Smigiel mentioned that Ohio State was urging him to make a commitment before Chip Kelly departed the Buckeyes for the Las Vegas Raiders.

The most important factor in Smigiel’s recruitment is developing connections. He mentioned that Florida State was originally his preferred school because things didn’t go well with Michigan and Kirk Campbell. However, with Campbell gone and Chip Lindsey taking over as offensive coordinator, Smigiel mentioned that he has a strong rapport with the ex-North Carolina offensive coordinator.

“We enjoyed our time in Ann Arbor.” We truly enjoyed the customs in that place. “Everything about Ann Arbor is something we truly enjoyed,” Smigiel stated. “I share a strong bond with coach Lindsey over there — he previously worked at North Carolina.” As soon as he landed that job in Michigan, I was among the first to be called. “To reconnect with coach Moore, I intend to visit there in late March.”

The Wolverines aim to secure their target quickly, and leaving a strong impression on the former Florida State commit could be very beneficial.
