On Monday during Pot of Gold Day, Notre Dame extended an offer to a few members of the class of 2027 who have close Fighting Irish links. The school loves to attract players with familial ties to the program.
Son of incoming freshman tight end James Flanigan and former Irish D-lineman Jim Flanigan, defensive lineman Richie Flanigan was offered by the staff. Additionally, they included Julius Jones Jr., a talented wide receiver and the son of former standout running back Julius Jones Sr., on their 2027 board.
Alifeleti Tuihalamaka, a 6-4, 260-pound defensive tackle for Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, received an offer from defensive line coach Al Washington. Junior Tuihalamaka, a defensive end who was the star of Marcus Freeman’s first class in the 2022 cycle, is his older brother.
On his offer sheet, Notre Dame was included with USC, Arizona State, Washington, Louisville, Sacramento State, Cal, and Colorado State. The Irish are interested in Tuihalamaka as an interior defensive lineman, but On3 classifies him as an offensive tackle prospect.
Just under 100 prospects were presented by the Fighting Irish on Monday, and it’s likely that a few more will arrive on Tuesday. The annual Pot of Gold Day recruiting event, which offers several dozen athletes, is when the Notre Dame staff truly gets things started with the incoming junior class. This has become a significant custom since the Irish began performing it in 2021.
