Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has rapidly climbed draft boards leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft. Unsurprisingly, one of his biggest supporters is Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer had just one season with Milroe after stepping in for legendary coach Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa. Though their time together had its challenges, Milroe showcased his talent in DeBoer’s system, especially as a runner, tallying 20 rushing touchdowns last season.
Milroe followed up with an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl and a standout Pro Day, where he stunned observers by running an unofficial 4.37-second 40-yard dash—one of the fastest times ever recorded by a quarterback.
Appearing on The Insiders on NFL Network, DeBoer shared insights into the questions he’s received from NFL front offices about Milroe and his potential at the next level. He wasted no time highlighting Milroe’s exceptional athleticism, emphasizing both his elite speed for a quarterback and his strong arm.
“It’s been consistent,” DeBoer said. “The ball comes off his hand smoothly, and I thought he showed good accuracy again. He can make throws at all levels of the field. His running ability speaks for itself—he’s demonstrated that on film over the past couple of years. He’s not just running toward defenders; he’s running through and past them. So his speed didn’t surprise me. The rest was just about confirming certain aspects, like working under center—things you might not have seen as often. But he looked comfortable.”
