UPDATE: Clemson basketball has been actively recruiting and is expected to land commitments from transfer prospects soon

Clemson basketball has been active on the recruiting front, and it’s only a matter of time before the Tigers secure commitments from transfer targets.

Since the transfer window opened on Monday, Clemson has been aggressively reaching out to prospects. Their early exit from the NCAA Tournament has given them an advantage, allowing them to focus fully on recruiting while teams still competing are preoccupied.

Over the past week, the Tigers have contacted nearly a dozen high-impact transfers as they look to rebuild their roster. With eight players departing and only four returning, head coach Brad Brownell has work to do this offseason.

On Friday, Summit League Player of the Year Marquel Sutton confirmed that Clemson was among several top programs that had reached out to him, adding another intriguing name to the Tigers’ recruiting efforts.

Sutton put up impressive numbers this season at Omaha, averaging 18.9 points and 7.9 rebounds while leading the Mavericks to the NCAA Tournament. His impact was instrumental in turning the program around following a disappointing 2023-24 campaign and the departure of Frankie Fidler to Michigan State. Now, he’s seeking a new opportunity with a team that has championship aspirations.

As one of the top players in the transfer portal, Sutton would be a strong replacement for Chaucey Wiggins, who unexpectedly entered the portal earlier this week.

While next season’s Clemson squad may feature an almost entirely new roster, the Tigers could avoid a full-scale rebuild by landing the right transfers. College basketball has seen teams undergo rapid transformations and still make deep runs, and with a strong portal class, Brownell has a chance to construct a contender rather than start from scratch.
