The long-anticipated update is finally here. Ever since former five-star recruit Elliot Cadeau entered the transfer portal, North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis has been actively searching for a strong replacement to take the reins of the Tar Heels’ offense.
That search has stretched far and wide, but on Wednesday night, the wait ended. Colorado State transfer Kyan Evans has officially committed to UNC, breaking the news himself with an announcement on social media.

Point guard Kyan Evans has officially committed to Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Evans marks the third portal addition for Davis this offseason, joining big man Henri Veesaar and West Virginia transfer guard Jonathan Powell. And the search isn’t over—UNC is still targeting experienced playmakers, with visits from Tre Holloman and Kanon Catchings expected later this week.
Evans is coming off an impressive sophomore campaign at Colorado State, where he played a key role in helping the Rams capture the Mountain West tournament title. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Kansas City native averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game.
He turned heads during the NCAA Tournament, especially in a first-round upset of Memphis where he poured in 23 points, hitting 6-of-9 from three and 7-of-11 overall. Even in a tough second-round loss to Maryland, Evans stayed efficient, going 2-for-4 from deep. For the season, he shot a stellar 44.6% from three-point range—something UNC will surely value next season.
While the early offseason losses of Elliot Cadeau to Michigan and Jalen Washington to Vanderbilt stung, Davis has responded with three key portal commitments and the return of senior guard Seth Trimble—momentum that could keep building as UNC shapes its 2025 roster.
