On Thursday, Kentucky lost a key piece of its 2025 recruiting class as elite point guard Acaden Lewis announced he is decommitting and reopening his recruitment.
Lewis, ranked as the No. 5 point guard in the 2025 class by 247Sports, shared his decision with ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
“This was an incredibly tough choice, but I have to prioritize what’s best for my future,” Lewis said. “I’m thankful to Coach [Mark] Pope and the entire Kentucky staff for everything they’ve done for me so far.”
Lewis initially committed to the Wildcats back in November but has since decided to explore other options.
“This decision isn’t a reflection of anything negative about Coach Pope or the Kentucky program,” he added. “I’m grateful for their support and excited about what lies ahead.”
With Lewis stepping away, Kentucky now holds two high school commitments in the 2025 class: Overtime Elite guard Jasper Johnson and in-state center Malachi Moreno, both ranked in the top 30 nationally.
The Wildcats have also added four transfers to bolster next season’s roster: Arizona State big man Jayden Quaintance, Alabama forward Mo Dioubate, Pitt point guard Jaland Lowe, and Tulane wing Kam Williams.
Lowe, who committed on Saturday, is expected to be a key contributor at point guard right away.
