Although no departing Kansas basketball players are expected to make the leap to the professional level this year, two former Jayhawks were selected in the most recent NBA Draft. Johnny Furphy was picked 35th overall by the Indiana Pacers, while Kevin McCullar was selected 56th overall by the New York Knicks.
Furphy was widely regarded as a first-round pick leading up to the draft, but the Melbourne native was chosen later than anticipated. In the 2024-25 season, he has had a limited role with Indiana, playing in 49 games and averaging just over six minutes per game.
However, on Friday night, Furphy received extended playing time as the Pacers, already locked into the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, rested their starters. As a result, Furphy played a season-high 32 minutes against the Orlando Magic. Early in the second quarter, he sped past Anthony Black and drove to the basket, where he soared for a thunderous dunk over Goga Bitadze.
