The Georgia Bulldogs have long been considered the frontrunners to land Jackson Cantwell, the top recruit in the 2026 class. However, that lead may be slipping. According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, both Oregon and Miami are making a strong push as Cantwell’s decision approaches.
“Georgia, Oregon, and Miami look like the top contenders in the Cantwell sweepstakes,” Wiltfong wrote in a Tuesday update. “While Georgia has led for much of the process, Miami has made a late surge, and now Oregon has a chance to impress during this weekend’s visit. They check a lot of boxes for Cantwell.”
Wiltfong also noted that NIL opportunities could play a key role in Cantwell’s decision, particularly when considering long-term value over three to four years.
In addition to NIL, Cantwell is reportedly seeking a program that emphasizes physical, smash-mouth football and has a strong track record of developing offensive linemen.
Jackson Cantwell told On3 in early April that he has moved up his official visit to Oregon, originally scheduled for June, to the weekend of April 19–21. The standout offensive lineman will travel to Eugene as one of the most sought-after prospects in the country. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Cantwell is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2026 class — and also ranks as the top offensive lineman and the top player from Missouri. Standing nearly 6-foot-8 and weighing around 300 pounds, Cantwell will play his senior season at Nixa High School in Nixa, Missouri.
