After experiencing their first losing season of the decade, NC State head coach Dave Doeren and his staff are determined to steer the program back on track.
A key part of that plan involves aggressive activity in the transfer portal. The Wolfpack have already landed commitments from three seasoned defensive players—and they’re not done yet.
On Thursday, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported that Boise State linebacker Andrew Simpson has drawn interest from nearly two dozen programs since entering the portal. Among them: NC State and their heated in-state rival, now under the guidance of Bill Belichick at UNC.
Alongside NC State and UNC, Andrew Simpson has attracted attention from a wide range of programs, including Arkansas, Boston College, Cal, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Indiana, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Tulane, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
A former three-star recruit out of St. John Bosco High School in California, Simpson spent four seasons at Boise State, redshirting in 2021. Now entering the portal with one year of eligibility left, he brings plenty of production to the table—totaling 140 tackles, 12.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and three interceptions during his time with the Broncos. His standout play earned him All-Mountain West Second Team honors in 2023.
