Wendale Farrow Joins South Carolina Women’s Basketball Staff as Assistant Coach
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley announced Friday that Wendale Farrow (pronounced win-DELL) will join the Gamecocks as an assistant coach. Farrow brings a decade of experience across the Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC, with a résumé that includes six NCAA Tournament appearances, two Elite Eight runs, a Big Ten Regular-Season title, a Pac-12 Tournament championship, and the development of eight WNBA Draft picks.
“We struck gold in bringing Wendale into our Gamecock family,” said Staley. “He’s a rising star in the coaching world who’s been part of successful programs at every level. From strategy and player development to recruiting and community impact, Wendale is a complete coach. We’re excited for the energy and expertise he’ll bring to Columbia.”
Farrow arrives in Columbia after four seasons at USC, where he helped guide the Trojans to the 2025 Big Ten Regular-Season Championship and the 2024 Pac-12 Tournament title. Under his leadership, USC reached the NCAA Elite Eight and finished in the top five of the final AP Poll in both seasons. Six Trojans were selected in the WNBA Draft during his time in Los Angeles, including 2025 first-rounder Kiki Iriafen.
Before USC, Farrow spent five seasons at Cal, including three under then-head coach Lindsay Gottlieb. The Golden Bears reached the NCAA Tournament with 20-win campaigns in each of those three years and saw two players drafted into the WNBA. Farrow’s coaching career began in the SEC as an assistant at Vanderbilt during the 2015-16 season under head coach Melanie Balcomb.
He launched his coaching journey at UCLA in 2013-14 as a video coordinator and later took on roles such as scout team advisor, community service liaison, and interim recruiting coordinator during his two seasons with the Bruins.
As a player, Farrow started at American River Junior College in California before transferring to Eastern Michigan, where he earned Academic All-District honors. After graduating in 2009, he joined EMU’s staff as a graduate manager, later working as an academic mentor at the University of Michigan while completing his master’s degree in educational leadership – student affairs, which he earned in 2013.
