The South Carolina Gamecocks and head coach Dawn Staley are still feeling the sting of their national championship loss to Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies. After falling just one win short of another title, the focus now shifts to reloading and making a stronger push in the 2025-26 season. To do that, the Gamecocks are looking to add key pieces through the transfer portal.
On Saturday, Staley and her program received an intriguing update. According to Talia Goodman of On3 Sports, Mississippi State transfer Madina Okot is currently visiting South Carolina. Okot is coming off a strong 2024-25 season, during which she averaged 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
In addition to her impressive scoring and rebounding numbers, Madina Okot also averaged 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game, while shooting a remarkable 64.9% from the field. At 6-foot-6, the Mumias, Kenya native would be a major asset for Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks. Her size, scoring ability, and rebounding presence would bolster South Carolina’s lineup—but it’s her defensive impact that could truly elevate the team.
South Carolina remains one of the premier destinations for both recruits and transfer portal talent. Under Staley’s leadership, the program has become a powerhouse. Since taking the helm in the 2008-09 season, Staley has guided the Gamecocks to a stellar 475-110 record—an 81.2% win rate. Beyond regular season dominance, she’s also led South Carolina to three national championships, cementing the program as a true dynasty in women’s college basketball.
