After spending a season each at Louisville and the College of Charleston, James Scott has officially entered the transfer portal just before this week’s deadline. With his North Carolina roots and NC State’s clear need for frontcourt depth next season, it’s no surprise that the Wolfpack coaching staff is already expressing strong interest, NC State Wolfpack On SI has confirmed.
Scott, who still has two years of eligibility remaining, appeared in 35 games for Louisville last season, starting in 31 of them.
The 6-foot-11, 220-pound sophomore James Scott, a former three-star prospect out of E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, N.C., averaged 7.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game for Louisville during the 2024-25 season. He was highly efficient from the field, shooting 75.5 percent, though he struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 43.5 percent of his attempts.
In his freshman year at College of Charleston, Scott put up similar shooting numbers while averaging 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds over 35 appearances.
Meanwhile, first-year NC State head coach Will Wade and his staff have already brought in three transfer guards and wings—Alyn Breed, Quadir Copeland, and Tre Holloman—leaving a clear opening in the frontcourt that someone like Scott could fill.
