GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Columbia native and former South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley, who played a key role in the Gamecocks’ 2024 NCAA National Championship run, is officially leaving the program.
On Friday afternoon, the reigning SEC Sixth Woman of the Year announced via social media that she will transfer to LSU for her junior season — a move that intensifies the fierce rivalry between two of the SEC’s top contenders.
Despite coming off the bench and playing under 19 minutes per game, MiLaysia Fulwiley finished her sophomore season as South Carolina’s second-leading scorer with 11.7 points per game. She also led the team in steals (1.5 spg), but committed a team-high 1.9 turnovers per game.
Fulwiley shined in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16, posting a game-high 23 points in a win over Maryland. However, she failed to reach double figures in scoring in each of the Gamecocks’ final three games, including the national championship loss to UConn.
As a freshman, Fulwiley earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors and was named SEC Tournament MVP after leading South Carolina to a conference title. She capped off her debut season by helping the Gamecocks complete a perfect 38–0 campaign with a national championship victory in Cleveland.
