UNC’s Hubert Davis Lands Key Recruiting News on Friday Hubert Davis Lands Key Recruiting News on Friday

The North Carolina Tar Heels are heading back to the drawing board after a frustrating end to their college basketball season.

UNC’s year was marked by inconsistency, and it culminated in a disappointing first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Ole Miss.

The team was anchored by standout players Drake Powell, RJ Davis, and Elliot Cadeau, but none of them will be returning next season. Powell and Davis have entered the NBA Draft process, while Cadeau has transferred to Michigan after two years in Chapel Hill.

Still, there’s reason for optimism. On Friday, head coach Hubert Davis and his staff secured a key addition: Virginia Tech transfer Jaydon Young has committed to join the Tar Heels.

Jaydon Young spent the last two seasons with Virginia Tech, steadily developing his game in the ACC.

In the 2024 season, he averaged 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Over his two-year career with the Hokies, he posted averages of 5.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.

A former three-star recruit, Young was ranked the No. 31 shooting guard and No. 231 overall prospect in the country by 247Sports. Coming out of high school, he received offers from programs like Appalachian State, East Tennessee State, Elon, and Charlotte before choosing Virginia Tech.

Now, Young is set to take the next step in his career with one of the most storied programs in college basketball—joining the North Carolina Tar Heels.
