Badgers add offensive tackle from transfer portal following Kevin Heywood’s departure

“The Badgers have been on the hunt for an offensive lineman in the transfer portal.”

“Central Michigan transfer offensive lineman Davis Heinzen announced his commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday.”

Davis Heinzen, a three-year starting offensive tackle at Central Michigan, addresses a major need for Wisconsin after the Badgers lost starting left tackle Kevin Heywood to a torn ACL earlier this spring.

A native of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Heinzen is expected to compete with Leyton Nelson for the starting left tackle role upon his arrival in Madison.

At 6’5″ and 310 pounds, Heinzen brings valuable starting experience and fits well with the Badgers’ in-state culture.

Following Heywood’s injury, Wisconsin had rotated several options at left tackle, including trying Joe Brunner at the spot. If Heinzen can secure the starting role, it would allow Brunner to return to his natural left guard position, helping solidify the interior offensive line.

The Badgers had already picked up Missouri State tight end Lance Mason from the transfer portal on Friday, and Heinzen’s commitment gives them a second key addition, addressing another important roster need.
