GOOD NEWS: UNC Basketball Makes the Cut for Elite Forward

In early January, Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) small forward Anthony Thompson received an offer from UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis and his staff. Now, nearly four months later, the Tar Heels have secured a spot in the five-star junior’s top 15.

Thompson revealed his list on Friday through a social media post, naming UNC alongside BYU, Texas, Xavier, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Georgetown, Indiana, Auburn, Notre Dame, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Michigan.

he 6-foot-8, 185-pound lefty narrowed his list after collecting more than 30 offers early in his recruitment for the 2026 cycle.

Currently, Anthony Thompson ranks No. 11 overall, No. 3 among small forwards, and No. 1 in Ohio, according to the 247Sports 2026 Composite. “Whenever Anthony Thompson is in the gym, it’s pretty much impossible to find a better-looking jump shot,” 247Sports’ Eric Bossi recently noted about the versatile sharpshooter, who also reportedly boasts an impressive nearly 7-foot-3 wingspan.

Meanwhile, UNC basketball has issued double-digit offers in the 2026 class and remains a strong contender for many of its top targets.
