South Carolina DB Emory Floyd Commits to App State
Although the spring transfer portal window has officially closed, some players are still finding their new homes. One of those players is former South Carolina defensive back Emory Floyd, who has committed to Appalachian State, according to Matt Zenitz.
Floyd’s decision to join App State makes sense, as the program recently hired former South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. Floyd and Loggains are familiar with each other, and their past connection will continue as they reunite at their new school.
The redshirt junior’s 2024 season was cut short by a hamstring injury that limited his playing time. He appeared in just two games against Akron and Ole Miss, but did not record any statistics. During his redshirt freshman season, Floyd saw action in three games, finishing the year with two tackles and one pass breakup.
A highly-rated recruit out of high school, Floyd was ranked as a four-star prospect, the 425th-best player in the country, the 37th-best safety in his class, and the 45th-best player in Georgia, according to composite rankings. Despite interest from several SEC programs, Floyd’s options were limited by SEC transfer rules, which prevent players from transferring to another SEC school.
South Carolina has also been active in the portal this offseason, bringing in two EDGE players—Demon Clowney from Louisville and George Wilson from Campbell. However, the Gamecocks recently lost quarterback Dante Reno to the portal.
