The ex-Alabama quarterback was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts.
The Philadelphia Eagles visited the White House in Washington, D.C., on Monday to celebrate their Super Bowl 59 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in February. However, former Alabama quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts was notably absent.
NBC News White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor initially reported Hurts’ absence earlier in the day, citing the White House’s explanation that scheduling conflicts were to blame. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had previously described the event as optional.
Additionally, NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark reported that Hurts wasn’t the only Alabama alumnus missing. DeVonta Smith, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner and Hurts’ former teammate at Alabama, also did not attend.
Following their previous Super Bowl win in the 2017-18 season, the Eagles did not visit the White House during Donald Trump’s first term as president. Trump, now serving his second term after being inaugurated in January, extended an invitation to this year’s team back in March.
Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech at Coleman Coliseum on Thursday ahead of the University of Alabama’s spring commencement ceremonies, which begin Friday. Spring 2025 graduates can attend the event for free. The president announced his Tuscaloosa visit on April 21, marking his first trip there since September 2024.
