Mark Pope shared on Wednesday that while Otega Oweh is currently pursuing his NBA dream, the talented guard still holds a deep connection to Kentucky.
In an interview with CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, the Kentucky head coach said he’s “scouring the planet” in search of “a couple more pieces” to complete the Wildcats’ roster for the 2025-26 season. As it stands, Kentucky has 12 scholarship players, a group that includes Oweh.
The 6-foot-5 guard transferred from Oklahoma to Kentucky ahead of last season and delivered a breakout performance, earning All-SEC Second Team honors with averages of 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Oweh still has one year of eligibility but has entered the 2025 NBA Draft.
Pope provided an update on Oweh’s draft process during the interview.
“Otega is going through this draft process, and we’re cheering for him every step of the way — but I know a lot of his heart is back here at Kentucky,” Pope said. “If he does return, he will return as the presumptive SEC Player of the Year. Clearly, he’s got a beautiful future ahead of him.”
Oweh has until May 28 to withdraw from the draft and return to college. In ESPN’s latest Big Board by draft analyst Jonathan Givony, he’s listed as the 77th-best prospect in the 2025 class.
