The Kansas basketball team still has several roster spots to fill before locking in its lineup for the 2025–26 season. While head coach Bill Self has landed star freshman Darryn Peterson, brought back big man Flory Bidunga, and added several transfers, the roster remains a work in progress.
Although many believed Kansas had closed the book on its 2025 recruiting class, a new report suggests the Jayhawks may be eyeing a high-upside international talent. According to The Kansas City Star, Kansas and North Carolina have entered the mix for Italian guard Dame Sarr.
Dame Sarr: A Potential Hidden Gem
Sarr, an 18-year-old from Italy, is considered raw but bursting with potential. The 6-foot-6 guard has spent the past two years playing for FC Barcelona in Spain and turned heads during the Nike Hoop Summit practices. Though he’s viewed as an eventual NBA prospect, Sarr appears interested in spending at least one season in college.
He was previously linked to Illinois, but the school’s recent commitment from Andrej Stojaković could mean the Illini are cooling their pursuit. North Carolina and Oregon are also reportedly in the hunt, but it’s unclear which program currently holds the edge.

He needs to refine his shooting and improve from three, but thrives in transition and attacking the basket. With a quick first step, solid vision, and the ability to finish through contact, he shows plenty of promise. Still, he’s raw and can be erratic with the ball.”
Kansas has already added veteran guards Tre White and Melvin Council Jr., which might deter Sarr from committing. Still, if he does land in Lawrence, he’d be one of the most intriguing prospects to watch next season.
