With three years of eligibility remaining and the talent to make an impact with the right opportunity, former NC State basketball guard Bryce Heard entered the transfer portal in late March. Now, the 6-foot-5, 170-pound Chicago native has chosen his next destination for his sophomore season.
On Friday afternoon, Heard announced his commitment to the Dayton Flyers. He joins a program that has posted 20-plus wins in six of the past eight seasons under head coach Anthony Grant, who succeeded NC State alum Archie Miller after his successful six-year run with the team.
A consensus four-star prospect out of Homewood-Flossmoor High School (Ill.), Bryce Heard reclassified from the 2025 class to 2024 and arrived at NC State last summer—just in time for what would be the final season under head coach Kevin Keatts.
Heard appeared in 24 games for the Wolfpack, averaging 1.2 points and 0.8 rebounds across 6.3 minutes per game.
- He’s one of seven NC State players from the 2024–25 roster to enter the transfer portal with eligibility remaining. Of that group, Trey Parker remains the only one yet to choose a new destination.
