Seahawks’ Nick Emmanwori Shares Meaningful Thoughts on Wearing Russell Wilson’s Iconic No. 3 Jersey

The Seattle Seahawks emerged as one of the biggest winners of the 2025 NFL Draft, addressing key needs while securing tremendous value over the three-day event. Among their standout selections was South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori, taken in the second round. Now poised to make an immediate impact, Emmanwori is ready to help lead the Seahawks back to Super Bowl contention—while donning a jersey number steeped in franchise history: No. 3, famously worn by Russell Wilson.

“I kind of was looking for a single digit,” Emmanwori told Seahawks.com. “Seven wasn’t available, so I was looking at the next number that could mean something to me. Russell Wilson was one of my favorite quarterbacks growing up with that Legion of Boom defense. He had an offense too, so respect to Russell. He did a lot for this organization—did everything he could—so I’m going to do what I can in this number and make it special on defense in my own way.”

By wearing No. 3, Emmanwori inherits more than a jersey—he steps into a legacy defined by the most successful quarterback in franchise history. Wilson, a third-round pick in 2012, spent a decade in Seattle, making nine Pro Bowls, winning a Super Bowl, and leading the team to another. His peak years were fueled by the dominance of the Legion of Boom defense, a unit Emmanwori now hopes to emulate as part of a new era in Seattle.
