Brooks Lee delivered a two-run double with two outs in the eighth inning, leading the Minnesota Twins to a 5-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon in Minneapolis.
Ty France, who had three of Minnesota’s five hits, contributed two run-scoring singles, while Trevor Larnach added a homer as the Twins completed a three-game sweep. The victory extended their winning streak to five games.
Griffin Jax (1-2) struck out two batters in a perfect inning of relief, not allowing a hit.
The Orioles, currently on a five-game losing streak, fell 9-1 and 5-2 in the first two games of the series. Yennier Cano (0-2) gave up two runs in the eighth, managing to get only one out.
Baltimore’s starting pitcher Dean Kremer went seven innings, allowing two runs and three hits, while striking out eight batters.
Emmanuel Rivera recorded three hits for the Orioles.
Twins starter Bailey Ober gave up two runs (one earned) over five innings, allowing eight hits and striking out six with one walk.
The Twins struck first in the game with France’s two-out RBI single in the first inning.
Baltimore answered with a run in both the second and third innings. Rivera’s double brought in a run in the second, and Ryan Mountcastle’s sacrifice fly put the Orioles ahead 2-1 in the third.
Mountcastle, despite recent struggles at the plate, has driven in a run in three of his last four games. He doubled in the fifth to put runners on second and third with no outs, but Ober managed to work out of the jam without allowing further damage.
Larnach’s solo homer in the sixth tied the game at 2-2, marking his fifth home run of the season and first since April 25.
Despite the Orioles holding a 10-3 advantage in hits through six innings, the score remained tied.
