Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard suffered a torn left Achilles tendon during the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. The injury occurred early in the first quarter of Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers, when Lillard went down with a non-contact injury and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Lillard had only appeared in three preseason games after returning from a bout with deep vein thrombosis in his right calf, which sidelined him through the end of March and all of April.
His absence proved costly, contributing to the Bucks’ early playoff exit. However, the team has now provided a significant and encouraging update on Lillard’s recovery.
On Friday, the Milwaukee Bucks announced that Damian Lillard has successfully undergone surgery to repair his torn left Achilles tendon.
“Damian Lillard underwent successful surgery today to repair a torn left Achilles tendon,” the team stated. “The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, with consultation from Bucks orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Carole Vetter.”
Due to the severity of the injury, Damian Lillard is expected to miss over a year of competitive basketball.
The nine-time All-Star had just completed his second season with the Bucks, appearing in 58 games. He averaged 24.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists, serving as a key contributor alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo during the regular season.
In the playoffs, Lillard struggled to find his rhythm. Over three games, he averaged just 7.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while shooting 22.2% from the field. His final appearance, Game 4 against the Pacers, lasted only six minutes before the injury forced him to exit scoreless.
